In our art course, children will explore a different genre and style each week. They will examine and discuss artwork, take virtual gallery tours, participate in fun interactive games and quizzes, and practice various techniques. Students will finish each term by applying their new knowledge and creating their own custom artwork.
Term 1: Post-Impressionism (Part 2)
In this week’s art course, students will learn about the extension of Impressionism, also known as Post-Impressionism. Post-Impressionists applied bright colors and bold strokes with a structured approach to elicit emotion and focus on the subject feelings. Post-Impressionist painters are known as the founders of Modern art. Thus, we are excited to offer a Part 2 continuation course for learners to study new artists and styles of painting. They will examine and discuss artwork, take virtual gallery tours, participate in fun interactive games and quizzes and learn relevant art vocabulary. Students will finish each lesson by applying Post Impressionism techniques to create their own custom artwork using a variety or art mediums.
Term 2: Self-Portraits
A self portrait is a piece of art that an artist makes to represent themself. Artists can use many different mediums such as painting, pastels or sculpting to create their artwork. Self portraits can also be many different styles and are not always a realistic depiction of what the artist looks like. Rather, artists can take a more abstract view or connect with their emotions or interests while creating their representation . This week, students will learn to express themselves and their creativity by creating several self portraits that portray not only the physical attributes that make them special, but also allow students to creatively express their emotions, interests and feelings.
Term 3: Weaving
The art of weaving has been practiced since the beginning of civilization as a tool to make textiles and clothing. Today, most fabric is sown in a factory by a machine. However, in the past, all textiles were woven by hand! This lengthy process involved threading the yarn over and under in an alternating pattern using a loom! This week, students will explore using different styles of looms to weave yarn in different patterns. They will use symbolism in their work as they reflect on the colors and patterns within their crafts.
※Moto-Azabu, Tachikawa, Fukasawa campuses only
Term 4: Patterns and Mandala Art
In the art course this week students will work with repetitive patterns to create beautiful projects that allow their creativity and personalities to shine! A mandala is a circle filled with geometric shapes that symbolize a deeper meaning. Mandalas are believed by some to represent different aspects of the universe and are used to help foster meditation and prayer around the world. Students will design their own mandala patterns and use symbolism to share with others about their past experiences and future goals.
